Monkey Squad One #3. Pages 13 & 14.

No time to chat this week, kids!
I'm putting the finishing touches on Monkey Squad One #9 tonight and plan on printing tomorrow. It's the best looking comic I've ever made!
I'll be mailing out issues on Tuesday to my regular readers. I'll have it on Etsy by the weekend. It'll be in the local comic shop in a couple of weeks.
But only suckers pay for Monkey Squad One.
Email your mailing address to monkeysquadmailbox@gmail.com and I'll send you the entire 3 issue "Bloody Night, Bloody Knife" story-arc for fucking FREE.
If you like the stuff up there at all, do us both a favor and hit me up.

Monkey Squad One #3. Pages 11 & 12.

I hope y'all like Star Wars jokes as much as I like putting them in my comics.
Page 12 has the first shot of Connor fighting upside down. If you have the physical copies of MS1, look at panels where Connor is kicking ass. 9 times outta 10 that dude's upside down.
Comic genius?
Probably. It's too early to call.

Monkey Squad One #3. Pages 9 & 10.

Don't think I didn't wrestle with the "Knock-knock", "Who's there?", "Monkey Squad One" bit.
I don't think I'd do a "joke" like that these days but it doesn't REALLY bother me.
But how about those costumes, huh?
I'm not sure if y'all care about this "behind the comics" kind of shit, but that's what I'm doing here, so...
Connor's a Jedi with guns. Duh.
Aside from the Cyclops goggles, Logan's costume is from a comic-book hero named Heart-Attack that I made up when I was 11. Real-life Logan had a mohawk at this point & I was stoked to be all current in the comic. And, if you remember back in issue 2, Logan asks U.N.C.L.E. Doug for a jetpack and damn it if I don't love making dreams come true. If you don't believe me, you can read it again here: http://monkeysquadone.blogspot.com/2011_12_18_archive.html
Fake-Future Brendan & Fake-Future Connor's robot suit's are also knock-offs of a character I made up in 1988 called, The American Soldier (I think). He had an American flag on his chest that flipped down to reveal twin machine guns.
It was the 80's, man. Comics were gritty like that.
Brendan's costume is just Colossus arms and the kerchief? bandana? is a nod to my un-self-published comic called "Fuck Whitey" that I made from 1998-2001. In which a character named Noah wore that same kerchief? bandana? but around his head like Danny LaRusso.
Yes, I do references to comics that you could never possibly read.

Monkey Squad One #3. Pages 7 & 8.

Whoa! Hold up! If you are a Monkey Squad One fan and have a copy of 2011's Monkey Squad One Annual #1, go and get it before you read the next page!
(The rest of you should email me your mailing address and I'll send you a free copy.)
Okay, so, in the Annual is a story called "Dark Monkey Matters" that takes place between these two pages. Read it.
Pretty cool, huh?
Carry on...

The Justice Lords episodes of Justice League Unlimited WERE pretty awesome.

So, yeah, I always felt this part of the story was rushed. From MS1 meeting Kaz & CJ to to the new costumes and haircuts and weapons. So I added that story in the Annual to help bridge the gap.
Page 8 has the first of many Brendan-talks-to-Kaz-as-if-he-was-his-father jokes. It's a joke I drive into the ground.
Next week: Shit gets real!
