Monkey Squad One #4. Pages 10 & 11.

The tour through the MonkeyVerse continues!

The Nexus of All Realities is a Marvel Rip-Off (It's where Man-Thing lives). I said a few posts ago that I rip-off all kinds of shit and here's another example.

The characters in this panel are as follows (From L to R, From Back to Front):
*Fantastic Four Monkey Squad One
*Teenage Hillbilly Monkey Squad One
*Robot Monkey Squad One
*Girl Monkey Squad One
*Original Monkey Squad One
*Black Monkey Squad One
*Baby Monkey Squad One
*Monkey Monkey Squad One

They'll all be back eventually. As to where the "nexus" is and who brought them all there, you'll find out (for the most part) in next summer's Monkey Squad One Annual #2.

But we ain't done yet, folks! That was just the 1st panel!

The Killer-Snowman Earth is a shout-out to Bill Watterson and his amazing Calvin & Hobbes.

Zombie-Earth was my response to the overwhelming demands from my nephews to put Zombies in the comic. I wouldn't be able to start the real Zombie story for another year and was tired of their bitching, so all they got was a taste.

All-Girl Earth was my attempt at embarrassing my nephews. Little did I know that it would be the setting for Monkey Squad One #10-12.

Thanks for reading! Next week: The penultimate posting for Issue #4!

Monkey Squad One #4. Pages 8 & 9.

The pissed-off moon will be back in the final story-arc!

The Squid-Face-Nazi-Aliens will be back sooner than you think!
If you're the kind of person who would think about stuff like that.

 Next week...More shit like this!

Monkey Squad One #4. Pages 6 & 7.

This begins one of the highlights of the whole Monkey Squad One series, if you ask me.
I was just getting my bearings with writing comics and dedicating so many pages to a multiversal adventure was a pretty big undertaking for me. I ended up having a really good time with it and was happy with how the whole thing turned out.
I hope you're happy for me.

In the process of creating the Earths of the MonkeyVerse I made some Earths that I ended up not using. I'd like to put those panels of unused worlds and a few other "deleted scenes" in an Annual someday, but I imagine when it comes down to it I'll want to put new story pages in an Annual over shit that wasn't good enough to be published the first time around. Maybe that's stuff I could post here between issues. Monkey Squad Monday exclusive content? Holy shit.

The best part of making up all of the different Earths was that I'd inadvertently set myself up for stories in the future. A big chunk of what's coming can be glimpsed in this and the next few posts.

Real-life Logan really liked the Santa The Barbarian bit.
But he was 9 back then. He's 11 now.
He'll stop giving a shit about all of this in about a year. I'll still have 6 years worth of comics to make but my nephews will lose interest long before I'm done.
I'm not typing all of this cuz it's sad.
I'm saying it's awesome because my nephews will stop paying attention to this comic before the REALLY fucked-up shit starts happening to their fictional counterparts.

Thanks for reading. HollaHollaHolla.

Monkey Squad One #4. Pages 4 & 5.

It's interesting these two pages show up this week...
I'm working on the pencils for Issue 10 these days. Issue 10 has a scene where Brendan tells U.N.C.L.E. Doug the story where he zaps the time machine control panel and it turns the time-machine into a Dodge Demon. And here it is the 1st time around.
So, 6 issues and 2 years later, elements from this issue and specifically these pages are coming back to play a role in the current story-arc.
I don't know what everybody else looks for in superhero comics but I like it when shit you read 6 issues ago comes back around.
Meanwhile, drawing cars sucks balls.
I hated it then and and I hate it now.

Monkey Squad One #4. Pages 2 & 3.

Watch out, Connor! That monkey's got a shiv!

If it's hard to tell, the dinosaurs' heads flipped back to reveal goggled kitten drivers. And their belly-doors opened to reveal an assortment of armament.

This was the first issue that I used the title banner that I've used every issue since.
Fascinating, I know.

The bit where Logan says they should mummify themselves was totally stolen from a JSA story by Geoff Johns & David Goyer.
I steal all kinds of stuff all the time in this comic and I feel my being upfront about it makes it okay.

Next week: During a lightsaber battle on Bespin, Dr. Metropolis cuts off Brendan's hand. Then Dr. Metropolis tells Brendan he's his father. Brendan is skeptical and makes some pretty gruesome facial expressions.
