Monkey Squad One #10. Cover, P.I.P., Pages 1 & 2.

Yeah Buddy!

Issue Ten is the shit!

A lot had changed since I'd started the previous year's zombie story-line. Zombies were more played out than ever before and I was glad to be rid of them! Most importantly, unlike the year before, I knew where the overall story of Monkey Squad One was headed. This is the first issue that I made with the comic's end in mind. It's also the first issue where I bring back things that happened in old issues. I'd found a whole new audience in the year prior to this issue (2011) and most of them hadn't read the old issues. But I had to tell the story I had to tell. So I tried to explain things the best I could, but in the end I guess that if you like this comic & want to know as much about the story as you can, then you'll take it upon yourself to read the old issues.

I do have one regret in this issue & it's that I don't have a panel showing that they're inside the Arch in this scene. There's a caption box that says "MS1 HQ Debriefing Room" but I really wish I'd done a panel of the Arch in the first 2 pages to let readers know the location.

Oh well!

The Monkey Squad Monday 2 Year Anniversary Special!

Yeah buddy!

One hundred & four weeks ago, Monkey Squad Mondays began here at monkeysquadone.com!

I've had a great time posting all this stuff and I'm really looking forward to sharing issues 10-12 with y'all over the next 6 months or so!

So, regular readers know that I usually post Special Features after an issue wraps up. I couldn't find my scripts/thumbnails for #9 (or the next 2 issues) but I did have this alternate cover.

As soon as I was finished drawing it I knew I wouldn't use it. I really really hate it & y'all gotta know I love you if I can stand to post this here.

At some point I think "issue nine" was drawn across the cover but isn't on this scan. Whatever I hate it either way.

But now, in honor of Monkey Squad Monday's 2nd Anniversary, may I present to you,
Monkey Squad One #1

IN FULL COLOR!

HOW DOPE WAS THAT!?!?

My good friend and podcast co-host, Sean Fagan, has been digitally coloring MS1 for a few months now! He's through issue #3 and they're so awesome! You can buy PDFs or CBRs or what ever for $2 each at the site for our podcast here.

And if that wasn't rad enough, here's some preview art for the upcoming Monkey Squad One Annual #2!

THANKS FOR 2 AWESOME YEARS!
NEXT WEEK:
MONKEY SQUAD ONE #10
BEGINS!

Monkey Squad One #9. Pages 19, 20, 21 & Back Cover.

Yay! "Bloody Night, Bloody Knife" is OVER!

You know, for as much fun as this 3 issue story was to make, I don't miss drawing zombies at all.
But the experience was wholly satisfying. It was my first attempt at a 3 issue arc & I think I did pretty good. And the last page of the story where Trik rushes home to see his dad (who Trik was really worried about back in MS1 #7) is probably my favorite moment of the story-arc.

2 things:

1. The houses in the 1st panel (the 2 on the left) on pg 21 are the houses that me & Trik grew up in. They're the houses our parents still live in, next-door to each other.

2. All the songs on the back cover are titles to real Trik E.Z. songs!

Speaking of which, there's a new Trik E.Z. video for his song, "Sensational"!

And Trik E.Z. & Cletus Whiteheart will return in Monkey Squad One Annual #2!

NEXT ISSUE:

The boys return to All-Girl Earth as "HollaHollaHolla" begins in Monkey Squad One #10!

NEXT WEEK:

MS1 #9 Special Features!

Thanks For Reading!

Monkey Squad One #9. Pages 17 & 18.

Having the opportunity to draw Cletus playing a guitar solo in the clouds totally made the entire zombie story worth doing. In fact, let me mention again that being able to include my Real Life friend, Cletus, in Monkey Squad One has been a highlight of my comic making experience.

I don't remember if I posted this before, but here's a video of Cletus singing "The Saddest Song Ever Written". Which is a song I wrote back in 2003 when me & Cletus played music together.

But when Trik EZ steals the mic & U.N.C.L.E. Doug starts beatboxing?
That shit still cracks me up!

Man it's much more fun doing these commentaries now that I'm not embarrassed of the art like I was a few issues back!

NEXT WEEK:

"Bloody Night, Bloody Knife"
