Monkey Squad One #6. Pages 16 & 17.

Hey everybody!
There's a lot to cover this week, so I'm just gonna jump right in...

The top 3 panels feature one of the only computer-made effects in all of Monkey Squad One.
The computer was a fucking copier at Kinkos, so don't believe for one second that you caught me in some hypocritical bullshit.
I drew the MegaGranMonster image, copied it twice, then cut and pasted the images over the backgrounds.
Moral Superiority sustained.

In the It-All-Comes-Back-Around department...

U.N.C.L.E. Doug asks about his hair in the future. Now, if you remember MS1 #3, the boys saw alternate future Doug and he looked like this in 2029:

Also, if you remember back in MS1 #4, the boys ran across U.N.C.L.E. Doug back when he was a high-school senior:

So, for those that have wondered for the last 2 issues, the boys DID kick high-school U.N.C.L.E. Doug's ass.

I hope to be able to draw that scene one day.

Before I wrap it up, I wanna tell you guys about the podcast I was recently interviewed on!
My buddies, twin brothers, James & Jason Ford invited me to chat with them on their show, The Womb Mates! They're fans of the comic and let me go on and on about Monkey Squad One and what it means to me.
If you want to hear the story behind the comic series, click over to http://www.thewombmates.com/ and check it out!

NEXT WEEK!

The story concludes!
Will Dr. Metropolis Re-arrest U.N.C.L.E. Doug and use Monkey Squad One as his own personal hit squad?

Fuck. That sounds awesome. I shoulda totally done that.

Monkey Squad One #6. Pages 14 & 15.

This is my favorite part of the whole issue!
Monkey Bot One running through the burning city is fucking BAD-ASS!

I'm pretty proud of how this stuff looks and it was just about 2 years ago when I drew it.

I'm also pretty proud of my execution of this sequence. Kicking MegaGranMonster's ass into space was a huge undertaking. Drawing action wasn't my strong point back then (still isn't) but I didn't want to skimp on the action in this issue.

And, "Say hello to Uranus"?
I'm particularly proud of that.

NEXT WEEK: Rooftop Reunion!

Monkey Squad One #6. Pages 12 & 13.

The whole Dr. Metropolis, "MY CITY?" bit is paraphrased from a Shade speech in James Robinson's Starman. It's one of Joe Metro (Real-Life Dr. Metropolis)'s favorite speeches in comics and he'll totally recite it to you if you're interested.

I threw that bit of speech in MS1 just for him.

Actually I write A LOT of Monkey Squad One for that dude. It's really cool if you like it too, but Joe's my audience. I like it when he likes it. If Joe laughs I know it's funny. Joe's the first person to read my new scripts and see penciled pages. He's the only person that knows where the story's going and the only opinion I (most of the time) listen to.

Joe's been behind me since the first page. It's a pleasure to write my good friend as the kind-of-villain-but-mostly-super-hero he was meant to be.

Every page is for him as much as it's for me.

NEXT WEEK: GIANT ASSES GET KICKED!!!!

Monkey Squad One #6. Pages 10 & 11.

This issue is NON-STOP ACTION!!!

Real Life Uncle Jim is my Dad's younger brother and was my favorite Uncle as kid. He's a big sweetie and it was nice to put him in the comic to get bitten by a weird vampire-lady.

Page 11 is pretty iconic as far as this series goes.
A character defining moment for Dr. Metropolis and Monkey Squad Two.

NEXT WEEK: EVEN MORE ACTION!

Monkey Squad One #6. Pages 8 & 9.

Yeah, buddy!

A.U.N.T. vs. U.N.C.L.E.!
That splash page is still pretty bad-ass to me!
I really like A.U.N.T. Stacy's Batman pose.

It's cool when I talk about how awesome my own comic is, right?

Good, cuz I really like the panel with MegaGranMonster pulling off Monkey Bot One's arm!

So, can Monkey Squad One recover from this crippling blow?

Duh, the series is on Issue 10.
Of course they recover.

Next week:  Renforcements arrive.
But it's not who you expect.
Who am I kidding? There're only 4 main characters missing.
It's them.
