Monkey Squad One Annual #1. Pages 21, 22 & 23.

Longtime readers of this blog know that we've seen Donkey Daddy in the background of panels before. Once here on Fake-Future Earth in MS1 #3 & here in MS1 #5 at the moment Gran-Monster becomes Mega-GranMonster.

To say that Donkey Daddy's story is far from over is a tremendous understatement.

Turns out Senor Metro/Dr. Metropolis designed the Death Cannon but U.N.C.L.E. Kevin created it.
Current readers have also seen a little more of the origin of this earth's Hot-Rod Time Machine in MS1 #10.

The stuff at the bottom of page 23 is a bit of a Planetary rip off.
There was an issue where the important questions & facts of the story where listed on the bottom of the last page.

So I did the same thing here.

I guess that's just "a straight up Planetary rip off" as opposed to "a bit of a Planetary rip off".

The dramatic conclusion of the Monkey Squad One Annual #1!

Monkey Squad One Annual #1. Pages 19 & 20.

Dude!
This is some exciting shit!

So you've probably read Issues 5 & 6 and know that Monkey Bot One is still used by present-day Monkey Squad One. This story reveals that Monkey Bot One has been in use for years.

This story also features the first time we see the Hot-Rod Time Machine on this Earth.
We've seen the HRTM before in issue 4, but that one was from an alternate dimension & had artificial intelligence.

Current readers found out a little bit more about THIS Hot-Rod Time Machine in issue #9.

Hyper-observant readers might remember the 2 previous appearances of Donkey Daddy.
For everybody else, he can be spotted in issues 3 and 5 ( here & here).

Donkey Daddy's story essentially begins here in this story.
But it's FAR from over.

It might not be as obvious as I'd hoped but Senor Metro is Dr. Metropolis from 1995.
Senor Metro is listed as an alias of Dr. Metropolis on his character bio from a few posts back but I guess not everybody catches that.

Mixtapes were typically collections of songs recorded on primitive contraptions that held a ridiculously small amount of music.

Jawbreaker, Crimpshrine, J Church, Fifteen and Operation Ivy were some of my favorite bands in 1995.

I still listen to that stuff from time to time.

NEXT WEEK: More 90's action!

Thanks for reading!

Monkey Squad One Annual #1. Pages 17 & 18.

As we've seen throughout the Annual, I put some Easter Eggs here & there as rewards to observant readers or to just please myself. This is one of my favorites and I love that no one has ever caught it. Not even Joe Metro noticed...

Page 17 is panel-by-panel remake of Monkey Squad One #1 Page 1.
It's kinda awesome...

Crazy, huh?

My Real-Life Uncle Keith "The Boz" Boswell is a great guy and was always a lot of fun growing up. It was cool that I found a spot for him in MS1.
He'll be back before the series is over!

"24 Hour Revenge Therapy" is the name of a Jawbreaker album that came out in 1993 or 94.
This whole story was a throwback to the 1990's. Including Dougernaut's haircut which refelcts what MY hair looked like in the mid-1990's.

Current readers might recognize that haircut on a newer incarnation of U.N.C.L.E. Doug, as well.

God Damn, this comic is deep.

NEXT WEEK: The first appearance of Donkey Daddy & Senor Metro!

Monkey Squad One Annual #1. Pages 15 & 16.

Dark Monkey Matter was first mentioned in MS1 #4. Here, just click this.

The Space-Dinosaur that Kaz's dad (Fake-Future Brendan) found is actually MegaGranMonster. In issue 6, MegaGranMonster was kicked into space, went through a worm-hole and you know what? Just click here and read the scene for yourself.

When I wrote this issue, I was planning for the future. I wanted to tell stories that fleshed out characters and relationships, but that also nudged at the future of the series. This story was to remind or introduce readers to the characters from Fake-Future Earth because I honestly thought I was gonna bring them back by now.

I'd planned on the zombie arc in #7-#9 since issue 4. After that I was gonna do a 1 issue Big Brown story and jump right into the Return of Kaz & CJ. But the All-Girl Earth story in #10- the upcoming #12 got in the way.

Then the story got bigger & crazier and  Kaz & CJ got pushed back. But I will tell you that they're coming back (relatively) soon! But I could've saved this story for Annual #2!

The Map Of The MonkeyVerse  was also a reminder/introduction to readers about all of the world's that Monkey Squad One visited in Issue #4.

I really recommend that you check out issue 4. I mean, you're already here & there's a link on your right. If you plan on getting the most out of this series, you should know about Squid-Face Nazis, Fake-Future Earth, All-Girl Earth and the rest of them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again,

Everything comes back around in Monkey Squad One.

NEXT WEEK: MONKEY SQUAD ZERO!
